Letter: Vietnam veterans appreciated at last
I am a female Vietnam veteran who would like to thank all the attendees at the Veterans Day Parade. Thank you for your appreciation and support for us veterans. It was so very welcomed and needed.
The support we veterans get today is so contrary to when I served in the military. I was quite embarrassed, even ashamed, to admit to any civilians, including friends that I served in the armed forces.
I participated in the parade. When I heard my name being shouted out and the smiles on the people's faces and the thank-yous spoken from them, I knew then that I no longer have to be neither embarrassed nor ashamed that I am a veteran.
Also, a very special thank-you for the many businesses that supported us veterans by offering free meals, canes and services on our very special day.
God bless America!
