Vietnam combat veterans Ed Albert (Cherokee), foreground, and Larry Kimmel (Miami Tribe of Indians of Indiana), representing the Warrior Medal of Valor Society's Prescott Chapter, honor the 20 Granite Mountain Hotshots with Warrior Medals of Valor Medallions. The National Congress of the American Indians approved the presentation of the medals to all veterans and active duty personnel by American Indians. Medal designer Marshall Tall Eagle Serna made an exception to the rule for Prescott's 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives during the Yarnell Hill wildfire June 30, as well as the hotshot crew's lone survivor Brendan McDonough, for protecting citizens, property and Mother Earth. Prescott Fire Chief Dan Fraijo received the medals on behalf of the families.
