Obituary: Helena Sue Walton

Helena Sue "Suzie" Walton went to be with the Lord on Oct. 27, 2013. Suzie was born in Muncie, Ind., to Theodore and Gertrude Johnson on Oct. 28, 1937.

Her family moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she met the love of her life, Morris "Gene" Walton. Suzie and Gene were married in 1955, and raised four children. They retired to the Prescott area in 1997. Suzie lived most of her life visually impaired, yet that never slowed her down from traveling, dancing, riding bicycles, bowling and working. Suzie was known for her gift of loving hospitality. Suzie loved to cook and bake, hosting meals for friends and family wherever she lived. Her home was often the gathering place for holidays and celebrations.

Suzie gave her life to Christ as a young child. In her later years, she shared how she knew the love of Christ even more because of the struggles in her life, not in spite of them. Suzie loved music and nothing lifted her spirits like old time gospel. Suzie was a devoted wife, loving mother, friend and confidant to many, caring for those around her even to her last day.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gene Walton; her children, Lorri and Lyle Carlson, Melinda Cosgrove and Mike Oldham, Greg Walton, and Gary Walton; daughter-in-law Theresa Walton; grandchildren Jake and Kim Carlson, Ryan and Jaime Dobbs, Seandra Cosgrove, Jared Cosgrove, Josh Walton and Jordan Walton; four great-grandchildren, Zane and Zoey Carlson and Lorelei and Coen Dobbs; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Good Samaritan Society Prescott Valley was Suzie's home for the last two and a half years. She loved the residents and staff, each of whom brought her joy and encouragement daily.

There will be a celebration of Suzie's life 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society Prescott Valley, 3380 N. Windsong Drive, Prescott Valley, Ariz.
