Quarterfinal blowout puts Bagdad football in Final Four
D6 State Quarterfinal
Glendale Prep 18
The Bagdad High football team took one more step toward its ultimate goal Friday night.
The Sultans returned from a first-round playoff bye last week with a resounding 61-18 win over Glendale Prep in the AIA Division 6 quarterfinals at Bagdad High School to reach the Final Four.
Quarterback Tony Jauregui had the hot hand in the pocket, completing 7-of-9 for 106 yards and five TD passes.
"The defense stepped it up and played tremendous," Bagdad head coach Dalton Mills said. "I think our depth carried us through."
James Loveall caught three touchdown passes. Casey Jeans rushed for 159 yards and three TDs, and also caught a touchdown pass.
Justin Pacheco recorded seven tackles.
Bagdad, the bracket's 3-seed, will now wait for Saturday's other bracket quarterfinal pitting 7-seed Ray against 2-seed Gilbert Christian. The Sultans will play that winner in the semifinal round Nov. 9 at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix.
The D-6 state championship is Nov. 16.
