Overnight bridge work on I-17 will cause traffic interruptions
Alternating lane restrictions on Interstate 17 and Highway 69 will be necessary this week to allow for the final preparations for the Cordes Junction traffic interchange work.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reported Friday that crews will be finalizing remaining bridge work throughout the week. Drivers should expect overnight restrictions, including:
Monday through Friday - I-17 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. to allow crews to complete bridge work; Highway 69 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction approaching the traffic interchange, which includes the southbound on-ramp from Highway 69 onto
I-17 and the northbound flyover bridge from
I-17 onto Highway 69; and shoulder closures on Highway 69 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., approaching Cordes Junction in both
directions for bridge painting.
Tuesday and Wednesday - Cordes Lakes bridge will be closed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., and drivers will be directed to use the new traffic interchange at Arcosanti to access I-17.
ADOT is advising drivers to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during those hours or allow extra travel time to reach their destinations.
"The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage," stated the news release.
