Chino Valley girls 2nd, boys 6th at Mohave meet
The Cougars' girls placed second overall with 110 points, while their boys took sixth overall with 48 points on Friday at the Mohave Electric Cooperative track and field meet.
Leading the way individually for the Chino Valley girls were Caitlyn Ballard, who won the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches); and Jenny Ballard, who won the discus (92' 1-1/2"). Jenny Ballard also claimed second in the shot put (29' 3").
Also faring well for the CVHS girls individually were Trista Hackett (2nd, 100m hurdles in 18.44); Cheyenne Penton (2nd, 3200m in 13:22); Maddie Zambrano (3rd, 100m hurdles in 18.57); Kelsey Randall (3rd, 3200m in 13:23); Mariah Ahern (3rd, 200m in 28.63); Mckeisha Nez (4th, 3200m in 13:25); Elisabeth Cuka (5th, 300m hurdles in 56.07); and Mariah Hall (5th, 100m in 14.33).
In the girls' relays, the Cougars 4x100m team won in 53.63 seconds, their 4x400m team was runner-up in 4 minutes, 33.20 seconds, and their 4x800m team finished fourth in 11:54.
Individually on the boys' side, Chino's Tory Marciel won the high jump and qualified for state in the process with a 6-foot leap; Zachary Ballard took third in the 800m (2:15); McKenzie Nez placed third in the 3200m (10:52); Tim Rudiger finished fifth in the 3200m (11:21); and Michael Brillhart snagged fifth in the 110m hurdles (19.11).
In the boys' relays, the Cougars' 4x400m team was third in 3:46.45 and their 4x100m team snared fourth in 48.04.
Next up, Chino Valley joins Prescott and Bradshaw Mountain in competing at the Scottsdale Distance Classic at Saguaro High next Thursday.
