Sundogs earn honors in the CHL's 'Best of the Best' poll

In the Central Hockey League's annual "Best of the Best" poll released on Friday, members of the Arizona Sundogs franchise were recognized in 11 of the 2012-13 edition's 50 categories.

Arizona captain Jason Morgan garnered honors in three categories, including first place for "Best Leader" and "Best Player on Face-offs," and third for "Best Penalty Killer."

Sundogs goalie Adam Russo won for "Best Goaltender in Shootouts," while forward Chad Nehring, the hometown club's leading scorer, came in second for "Most Underrated Player."

Forward Kip Brennan took first for "Best Fighter (Heavyweight)" and runner-up for "Best Body Checker." Defenseman Mario Larocque was third for "Best Body Checker."

The Sundogs organization received second place for "Best Training/Equipment Staff," and thirds for "Best Team Uniforms," "Best Arena Concessions" and "Best Mascot."

Prescott Valley came in third as the league's "Best City," while Hampton Inn & Suites in PV won for "Best Host Hotel."

Players, coaches and operational staff from each CHL team voted in the "Best of the Best" poll. The poll's 50 categories cover all aspects of the league, including on-ice performance, in-game entertainment, as well as top venues, concessions, websites, etc. Each of the league's 10 teams submitted their three top choices for each category, with first-place votes counting as five points, second-place votes valued at three points, and third-place votes worth one point.
