Acorn Montessori Charter Schools recently received two grants that will help provide reading materials and encourage a positive social environment.

A Title I grant will implement the new state Framework for Common Core Learning and Teacher Effectiveness with language arts materials from publisher McGraw Hill. Students in all grade levels will read, work and collect information through the "Treasures" curriculum in the areas of reading, writing, spelling, social studies, technology, phonics, word study, science, and leveled and independent computer practice.

Having these outstanding materials in each grade supports the effectiveness of teachers and curriculum.

The second grant for Character Education is from the Arizona Department of Education, and has two components. Positive Action relates to third through eighth grades, and Healthy Play is for kindergarten through second grade. Acorn's goal is to raise the school's academic and social climate by encouraging positive education practice, social techniques, and healthy learning for both students and staff.
