Obituary: Earl "Mickey" McKnight

Earl "Mickey" McKnight, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away July 8, 2013. Mickey was born to Earl and Beatrice McKnight on March 13, 1926 in Delta, Colo. He graduated Brea-Olinda High School in 1944 before entering the United States Navy to serve as a radar operator aboard two different destroyers during World War II.

Returning from wartime service, Mr. McKnight continued his education at Fullerton College and the University of Utah on an athletic scholarship, where he lettered in football. Mickey still maintains an NCAA record for a quick kick/punt against the University of Colorado in 1950. He graduated with a BS in Geology and is a lifetime member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).

Mick was an avid fly fisherman, accomplished duplicate bridge player and golfer and enjoyed rock/mineral collecting and lapidary.

Mr. McKnight is survived by Dolpha, his wife of 64 years; his children, Lance McKnight (Jane), Shauna Marcy (Dave); and a brother, Jerry McKnight. He was preceded in death by his brother, Merlin McKnight. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Brandon and Justin McKnight, Dylan and Alexa Marcy; and five great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial will take place at a future date. Interment will be at the Prescott VA Cemetery with military honors.
