Obituary: Nona Lou Brown

Nona Lou Brown, 104, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away Jan. 27, 2013. Nona was born on Oct. 5, 1908, in Paul's Valley, Okla., and moved to Williams, Ariz., in 1920 and to Glendale, Ariz., in 1922, where she later met the love of her life, Byron Brown. They were married 71 years.

Nona pursued a degree in nutrition at ASU at the age of 42, while working at Glendale Grade School cafeteria. After receiving her degree, she managed Washington High School cafeteria, then was the head dietician at Phoenix Country Day School. Upon retiring, Byron and Nona moved to Mayer, Ariz., in 1974 and traveled the U.S. and Alaska by RV.

Nona is survived by one sister, Dorothy Robbins of Texas; her daughter, Betty Lou Cook; three grandchildren, Randy (Becky) Cook, Sherrie (Joe) Driskill, and Connie Lokken, all of Prescott; 10 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron, son-in-law Chesley Cook, two sisters and four brothers.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 7844 N 61st Ave. Glendale, Ariz. An open house in honor of Nona will be Saturday, Feb 2, 2013, at 4 p.m. at her daughter's home.
