Obituary: Patricia Jane "Pat" Mathews

Patricia Jane "Pat" Mathews, 89, of Dewey, Ariz., passed away Feb. 6, 2013.

She is survived by her children Denise Rogers (Garry) of Humboldt, Ariz., Larry Mathews of Helotes, Texas, and Sandy Schott of New River, Ariz.; grandchildren Katie McVey (Mikey) of Prescott, Ariz., and Josh Schott of New River; sister Bernice Kuehl of Atlanta, Ga.; and brother Don Benning (Joan) of Kenosha, Wis.; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Lawrence "Red" Mathews, brother Bob Benning, son Jay Mathews, and daughter-in-law Jamie Mathews.

Pat was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Erwin and Vera (Griffin) Benning. The family moved to Kenosha, Wis., where Pat went to school, met and married Red, and had four children. In 1960, the family moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where Pat worked for 20 years in the electronics industry. After retiring in 1986, Pat and Red moved to Dewey. They often traveled with their trailer, seeing the sights, and visiting with friends and relatives around the country. Pat was active in her community, volunteering at the Activity Center, with the Friends of the Library, and with Neighbor to Neighbor.

Pat will be buried beside Red at St James Cemetery in Kenosha, Wis. A memorial luncheon in her honor will be at noon Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Dewey-Humboldt Activity Center, 13000 Prescott St., Humboldt, Ariz.
