Obituary: Joseph Raymond "Ray" Kilgour
Joseph Raymond (Ray) Kilgour, 98, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away peacefully at the Bethesda at Maravilla Assisted Living Home on Jan. 26, 2013. Ray was born on Jan. 19, 1915, in Eganville, Ontario, Canada to Dan and Mary Anne Kilgour.
Ray married Julia in New Toronto, Canada on Dec. 10, 1940. Ray graduated from St. Michael's College in Toronto, Canada where he played on the hockey team. He was involved in the Knights of Columbus where he was awarded the distinctive honor of "Grand Knight". Ray worked as a locomotive engineer for 22 years for the Canadian National Railroad and served in the Royal Canadian Air force. Ray and Julia relocated to Prescott, Ariz. in 1964, where he became a real estate broker. After retirement in 1990, Ray and Julia moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. where he enjoyed being a loyal fan to the Diamondbacks and Coyotes teams. Ray was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Ray is survived by his wife of 72 years, Julia; son Dan; grandson, Colter; granddaughters, Karissa White, Danika (Jimmy) Sayres; great grandchildren, Delany and Caleb; nieces Kathy (Stewart) Curry, Barb (Ron) Johnson; nephew Jimmy Kilgour; special friends Hank and Vicki Plaiser; and many cousins and relatives. Ray was predeceased in death by his daughter, Mary Anne (Kim) White.
A Memorial service was on Feb. 9, 2013. A special thank you to the very loving and kind staff at Bethesda at Maravilla II Assisted Living Home who cared for Ray and continues to care for Julia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
