Readers helping readers: What has worked for you?
It is time again to hear from you, the readers. What can you share with others in terms of your success in overcoming life obstacles? Do you have advice that is working for you? The Counselor's Column wants to hear from you. Many people are still digging out of the economic and stressful "hole" brought about by the recession. But other people have been able to deal with new challenges and overcome the last few years' hurdles. What's working for you? Why are you resilient and others are not?
Resilience is not a new concept or a new field of study. According to a report issued jointly by Arizona State University and St. Luke's Health Initiatives in August 2010, called "Unlocking Resilience," the hallmarks of resilience are:
Recovery - Rebounding from stress and returning to a balanced state of health and well-being.
Sustained purpose - Continuing to achieve goals thanks to having vision, causes, and passions.
Growth - Emerging better from stressful experiences.
Perhaps you haven't thought of yourself as "resilient," but take an objective step back and look at yourself. If you examine your current status from each of these three angles, perhaps you deserve a pat on the back - and perhaps you have some powerful suggestions to share with others.
