Roland Paul Michaelis, age 84, passed away peacefully at home, Jan. 16, 2013, after a short illness. Born July 14, 1928, to Gertrude and Paul Michaelis, he grew up in Los Angeles, Calif., graduating from UCLA with a degree in astronomy. He spent most of his adulthood in Northern California, working for NASA as the chief of imaging technology.
After retiring, Roland moved to Prescott in 2001, where he became very active in the Church of Christian Science, with the Westerners, Questers, the Gem and Mineral Club, the Citizens Cemetery and Prescott Astronomy Club.
He was the loving husband of Bette Michaelis and father of Melinda Michaelis Watson. He is survived by his granddaughter, Georgia Watson Drew, her husband Ken; great grandson Oscar; son-in-law Tony Watson, all of Northern California.
Roland will be missed by family and many friends and neighbors.
