Obituary: Reaut (Rae) Federwisch

Mrs. Federwisch

Mrs. Federwisch

Reaut (Rae) Federwisch was born Oct. 1, 1933 in Portland, Ore. to Perce and Claudia Rogers. Although born in Oregon, Rae was raised in the San Fernando Valley, where she spent many a day exploring the countryside on horseback with her Father.

Reaut attended Hollywood High, and that's where, at a school dance, she first met the love of her life Herman Federwisch. They eloped and were wed on Sept. 9, 1950 in Yuma, Ariz. Their first home together was in San Diego. Rae was proud of the fact that she was a "Navy Wife" bonding with the other navy wives while their husbands would be on ship for weeks at a time. Rae and Herm lived a life of adventure. From living in Death Valley with their young son Roger (they ran Stove Pipes Wells Hotel and Panamint Springs Resort) to traveling through Germany.

In early 1959, they moved to Sedona, Ariz. With their two young sons and daughter, where they loved the small town atmosphere, (population was 600 back then) and where their youngest child was born. Rae was an avid gardener turning the front yard of their creek side home into a fairy land of flowers and veggies. She was a regular on the Sedona women's bowling team, Involved in the Ladies Lions club and had many staring roles in Sedona's theater group (even landing a role in the movie "The Rounders" with Henry Fonda and Glen Ford). Rae was always first to volunteer for chaperoning a school dance or to make and provide refreshments for a town event. On free weekends, Rae would spend time fishing with her children on Oak Creek, all day jeeping trips ending in a family picnic or a horseback ride down to Red Rock Crossing, entertaining the tourist's by swimming her paint horse "Apache" in the deep ends of the creek.

Rae and Herm retired to Chino Valley in 1979. With children raised and on their own, it was time to travel. They spent time flying and exploring together. But due to the tragic death of their oldest daughter, they again fell into the life of a young family raising the four children their daughter Claudia left behind. Rae cherished every moment of the second family she was in charge of. Again, she immersed herself in school functions, sports, dance, all the joys of raising children and loved every minute of it!

Rae always claimed that life was a roller coaster full of ups and downs, sometimes you're scared, sometimes you're happy. You may scream at the top of your lungs or have tickly butterflies in the pit of your stomach ..... JUST ENJOY THE RIDE!

As an only child, growing up Rae always knew that she wanted a large family, and that wish came true for her.

Reaut is preceded in death by her parents Perce and Claudia Rogers, her daughter, Claudia Federwisch and her precious grandson Jesse James Steed.

Reaut is survived by her husband of 63 years Herman Federwisch; sons Roger Federwisch and Raymond Federwisch; daughter Camilla Federwisch; grandchildren Carrise, Cassidy, Jake (Roger), Levi, Taunya, Oscar, Kathleen, Erin, Constance, Jeanette and Raymond; 20 great grandchildren; and countless other family members who are equally loved!
