As one of Prescott's newest restaurants, Rock N Dog features gourmet hot dogs, sausages, burgers, hand-cut French fries, salads, chicken sandwiches and more in a setting reminiscent of classic '50s-style burger joints.
"What sets us apart is that we have restaurant-quality food in an atmosphere of quick service. Everything is prepared fresh and we adhere to a high-quality concept that's affordable. We have nothing over $6," said Jennifer Hayes, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Thomas.
The husband and wife team opened the Rock N Dog in late November. Both also own Figgy's Trading Post near downtown - a familiar location for many in the area.
"Our customers there have been super, super supportive," said Jennifer Hayes. "I think our food is amazing. It stands out, which is why people come in three times a week. They're telling their friends and promoting it on Facebook. We're doing well just on word of mouth."
Thomas, who has 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, previously owned two restaurants in California with Jennifer.
"One of them was this exact concept in California," Jennifer Hayes said.
The two have a strong local following, which has helped bolster their clientele at the new restaurant near Watson Lake. While the street address is 2161 Hillsdale Street, most will find the business by the roundabout near Watson Lake, located next to the Twin Lakes gas station. The restaurant, which can be reached at 928-379-9374, also caters.
"We can cater food that isn't on our menu if somebody has something in mind that they want," said Jennifer Hayes.
Specials include unique, gourmet variations on their hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and hamburgers.
"We have a southwest dog that has salsa and avocado and jalapeno," she said. "We sell a lot of specials."
"We'll sell as many specials per day as any one menu item," Thomas Hayes said.
Rock N Dog customer favorites include the mushroom cheddar burger, which features a quarter-pound of fresh hamburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, sauteed mushrooms, cheddar cheese and "VIP" sauce. Another customer favorite is the Chili Dog, featuring a quarter-pound, all beef hot dog with meat chili, cheddar cheese and onions.
"We have ingredients like spring mix and avocados, things you won't find at a normal quick-serve restaurant. We have really great-tasting food at really great prices," Hayes said. "In recent years the restaurant industry has been hit really hard. I think over the last few years you've seen the quality decline, because people are trying to save money with ingredients, or the portions have been reduced. We've made it a goal to still have good portions, quality food and keep it at an affordable price and make it fast. We're working really hard to be able to do that."
Other menu items include Polish, Italian, bratwurst, turkey dogs, barbecue dogs, the BLT dog and the Amplifier, which features Italian sausage topped with caramelized onions and sauteed bell pepper. Burger choices include the turkey burger, veggie burger, and the barbecue burger, which features caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce. For those seeking something other than burgers and dogs, the restaurant also makes a popular grilled chicken sandwich, a barbecue chicken sandwich and the World Tour Salad, which features mixed greens, grilled chicken, tomatoes, onions, cheddar cheese and ranch dressing.
