Letter: Tax credits work for Meals on Wheels
I read with great interest your thorough coverage on the Tax Credit Program for the Working Poor and other programs that benefit our schools and nonprofits.
As a member of the board of directors for Prescott Meals on Wheels, I have been very involved with our annual campaign in raising funds through the Tax Credit Program, which is our major source of funds. Without donations received through Arizona Tax Credits, our services to the community would be greatly curtailed. As you know, our mission is to provide one hot nourishing meal per day to Prescott seniors and the disabled with a demonstrated need.
I thought you might be interested in a story which I feel goes to the very heart and soul of this community. We recently received a donation envelope with a $20 bill and the following enclosed note: "Prescott Meals on Wheels - Please accept this $20 donation. I cannot give very much or very often. I am 94 years old and need to save for the future."
At this time of year when the needs of so many are expressed, it's gratifying to know that our citizens are doing the best they can to help those who are less fortunate.
We are grateful to all of our donors and sponsors for their support that has allowed us to serve this community since 1973.
Prescott Meals on Wheels Board Member
