Teen with bike struck by vehicle after crossing against red light
A vehicle struck a 14-year-old male as he attempted to cross Lakeshore Drive with his bicycle on Wednesday night.
According to Central Yavapai Fire District Fire Marshal Rick Chase, the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Glassford Hill Road. LifeLine Ambulance transported the teen to the Yavapai Medical Center east campus. Native Air later flew him to a Phoenix-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen traveled east on Glassford Hill Road with a friend when he was struck, said Prescott Valley Police Department Cmdr. Art Askew. Both crossed against a red light when the incident occurred, he added.
"A driver headed southbound on Glassford Hill Road didn't see them as they were in the crosswalk, and struck one of the kids as he was running with his bike. The driver was checked for impairment. There was no impairment and no violation by the driver. The boys were crossing on a red light when they were not supposed to be crossing," Askew said.
