Paving work on Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City begins August 19
The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a repaving project on northbound Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City (between mileposts 240 and 245) on Monday, Aug. 19.
Work hours are 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, Sunday through Thursday, at which time drivers can expect a single lane restriction and possible delays of up to 30 minutes. Work will not occur on weekends or holidays.
The $2.3 million project includes removing a layer of the existing pavement and then an application of a new layer of smooth, quiet rubberized asphalt. In addition, shoulder maintenance and improvements to the rock slopes throughout the project area. The project is scheduled to be completed in early November.
The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
