Agnes Lorraine Petersen

On the evening of Aug. 12, 2013, Lorraine Petersen of Prescott, Ariz., 79, joined hands with Jesus after a difficult battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born as an only child to Oliver and Mabel Ware, Lorraine began her life on July 26, 1934, in the small town of Webster Springs, W.Va. Inspired by her parents' teaching careers, Lorraine acquired a deep interest in education. Pursuing her dream, she achieved a Bachelor of Arts in education from Fairmont State College. Soon after, she accepted an opportunity as a physical education teacher at Prescott Junior High School and devoted 29 years to her profession. During this time, she obtained a Master of Arts degree at Northern Arizona University. She was a devoted and faithful member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and actively participated in The Ladies League. On June 30, 1957, Lorraine was wed to Donald Petersen. Together they raised three cherished daughters and enjoyed their retired years as proud grandparents.

She is survived by her loving husband Donald Petersen; daughters Linda Theriault (Ray), Teri Petersen and Leslie Boone (Scott); and four grandchildren, Kylene O'Connor, Aaron Boone, and twins Hallie Theriault and Melina Theriault. She also left behind her beloved aunt Janet Moore, and dearest friend Vicky Hurst.

Lorraine's kind and gentle spirit lives on through the countless people that she loved, taught, and inspired. She will be greatly missed.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 231 W. Smoke Tree Lane, Prescott, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The First Evangelical Lutheran Church Ladies League.
