Obituary: Pola Alanis Lucero

Mrs. Lucero

Mrs. Lucero

Pola Alanis Lucero, born Aug. 13, 1912 in Jerome, Ariz., joined the departed soul of her husband Phil Lucero on Jan 3, 2013.

She was affectionately known as "Mama Pola" by her family and friends and all would agree she left this world a little better off for having lived in it. Family and those who knew her and shared her life recognize that they themselves were blessed to have lived in the wonder of her comforting, understanding and accepting ways.

Mama Pola wanted little or nothing for herself. She was devoted to family and friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and often cared for nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and she loved doing it. She loved animals and enjoyed taking care of her chickens, turkeys and many cats. Mama Pola also liked to cook, sew and garden. There was always an aroma of something good cooking on the stove or in the oven. Mama Pola was loved by all and will be missed by all.

Pola moved with her family from Jerome to Walker, Ariz., after her 12th birthday. She later met and married Phil Lucero in April of 1941.

In 1945, she moved to Los Angeles, Calif. where she worked at the Continental Can Company where she built plane parts during World War II. While living in California, she also worked at the Levi Strauss and Company. When she returned to Arizona, she resided in Prescott where she worked at Morris Maler.

Pola was preceded in death by her husband Phil Lucero, brothers Eugene and Harry Alanis and one sister Rose Arredondo.

She is survived by Gerald, Paul, Larry and Robert Alanis; Teresa Silva and Barbara Barker; Jessie, Angel, John and Phil Flores; Rosemarie Pittman; 25 great nieces and nephews; 22 great, great nieces and nephews; and four great, great, great nieces and nephews.

A graveside burial will take place later this year.
