The 10th annual Prescott Gem and Mineral Club Show and Sale runs through Sunday at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
Visitors to the show will find everything from rocks, slabs, handmade jewelry, high quality gems, diamonds, turquoise, opals from Australia, beads, and more. The club also has Diamond Pacific Lapidary Supply bringing in a truck load of equipment from grinder and polishers, to the smallest jewelry pliers, along with polishing pads, saw blades, cutting oil and more. Craftsmen will be able to find everything they need for an art form known as lapidaries, which turns the once rough and dull surfaces into eye-catching handcrafted pendants, earrings, bracelets, and more. There will also be fossils and mineral specimens for the collectors, and as well as many books on the subjects of gems and minerals.
A children's area, run by the Junior Rockhounds of America and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies, offers activities, such as a spinning wheel with chances at prizes and a small mine where the miner brings out a polished stone for each youngster who rings the bell to wake him up.
The show also features 50 vendors from Arizona, California, Colorado, and other places to show off and sell their wares. The Prescott Gem and Mineral Club has 250 members who encourage developing amateur lapidary and jewelry craftsmen as well as mineral collecting. Field trips are also a popular aspect of the club for those who like to get out and find their own specimens. Location: Tim's Toyota Center, Corner of Florentine and Glassford Hill Roads, Prescott valley, AZ
The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, veterans and students and children under 12 free. There will be a raffle every 20 to 30 minutes; a free raffle ticket comes with every paid entry.
