Prescott author Fred Veil will discuss his book about the old-time baseball days of his grandfather during two presentations in Prescott next week.
"Bucky: Story of Baseball in the Deadball Era" tells the story of his grandfather Fred "Bucky" Veil as a 22-year-old rookie with the 1903 Pittsburg Pirates, who pitched against the Boston Americans in the first World Series of modern major league baseball.
The story is told from the perspective of Bucky and other players. It's a novel based on historical events. Bucky played the game with and against legends such as Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson and Cy Young.
Veil will talk about the book and sign copies at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Peregrine Book Co., 219A N. Cortez St.
If you miss that event, you can catch him at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Prescott Public Library.
