Obituary: David W. Howerton

David Walter Howerton's life was completed on Sept. 25, 2012, when he went home to be with the Lord.

David moved to Prescott in 2007 to build a retirement home for him and his wife. He was born in Lompoc, Calif., on Feb. 8, 1943, to Franklin and Lucretia Howerton and lived in Lompoc until he was 15 years old. The family moved in 1958 to northern California, where David graduated from Kelseyville High School in 1961. Upon graduating from College of San Mateo, David served six years in the Army National Guard of California. In 1965, he moved back to Lompoc to work for Lockheed at Vandenberg Air Force Base. David was a general contractor in Lompoc from 1979 until 2007, when he retired and moved to Prescott to build his retirement home.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy; his son Joseph; daughter-in-law Julie Howerton; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Katelyn and Collin, all of Chandler, Ariz. He also is survived by his four older brothers, Gene (wife Dorothy, deceased) of Nevada City, Calif., Vernon (wife Pearl) of Lompoc, Harvey (wife Annette) of Crescent City, Calif., and Lester (wife June) of Clear Lake Oaks, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David loved working with wood, building much of the furniture in his home. He also loved hunting and fishing - ocean, lakes, and streams. But his passion was for construction mission trips. From 2009 to 2012, he helped in the construction of a Christian camp in Honduras by going with friends on three different trips.

There will be a visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott, Ariz. There will be a Celebration of Life 3 p.m. Saturday Oct. 6, 2012, at First Church of the Nazarene on Willow Creek Road in Prescott.
