The Chandler-Gilbert men's soccer team had a shot to tie Yavapai for first place in the ACCAC.
With only three points separating the two teams in the standings entering their Saturday night match in Prescott Valley, No. 2-ranked Yavapai grabbed sole possession of the conference's top spot with a 3-0 win behind two goals and an assist from attacker Alex Harlley.
The freshman out of Rosamond, Calif., connected in the 35th minute to stake the Roughriders to a 1-0 halftime lead, and then hit again in the 73rd minute. His assist on Junior Albon Gbapou's goal four minutes before the final horn capped the scoring. The night featured a whopping 37 shots on goal from the Roughriders.
Defensively, the team notched its fifth shutout in six matches this season.
Yavapai (6-0-0) completes its three-game homestand when South Mountain visits Ken Lindley Field for an ACCAC tilt this Tuesday night at 6 p.m. South Mountain lost to Phoenix 1-0 on Saturday.
