Yavapai College presents Gospel Festival on Sunday

Yavapai College's first-ever Gospel Festival will bring together vocalists from around Prescott in a performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the college's Performing Arts Center.

The concert will introduce the new 35-member Yavapai College Gospel Choir, joined in song by gospel choirs from Unity, American Lutheran, Latter-day Saints and Granite Peak church groups, WPA, WomanSong and Worth Waiting 4.

"I've done this kind of fest before at other places I've taught and it was very successful," said Christopher Eubank, who is in his second year as director of choral activities in the college's performing and visual arts division.

And, he said during his first year at YC, people expressed an interest in a gospel choir at the college, and when the class was offered for the first time this school year, it filled up.

When Eubank pursued the idea of the Gospel Festival, he sent letters to church choir directors and got a good response, he said.

Sunday's performance will include folk and southern gospel music, a women's barbershop quartet and several area church choirs singing gospel, contemporary Christian and religious choral music.

Tickets for Sunday's concert are $20 in advance and $22 at the door. Tickets are available in advance online at www.ycpac.com, by calling 776-2000 or 877-928-4253 or at the Performing Arts Center box office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The college Performing Art Center is located on the Prescott campus at 1100 E. Sheldon St.

Net proceeds will benefit Yavapai College student music scholarships and help pay for the YC Choral Union's trip to New York City to sing at Carnegie Hall next spring. The college's music department and Friends of Music - YC are presenting the Gospel Festival.
