YBBBS: Child of the week - Rheann
Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters is in crisis. 100 Big Brothers, Big Sisters, couples and family matches are needed now!
Meet Rheann, one of more than 200 boys and girls waiting to be matched. She is outgoing, a pet lover, and a great conversationalist. Rheann is also a very good soccer player and has been playing for three years. She really likes arts and crafts, and says sewing and cooking are "awesome" for her.
Rheann thinks school is fun and she likes reading. She knows a lot about animals and would like to become a veterinarian. She said one of the best days of her life was when she saved her dog's life when he was sick. Rheann also has a goal in life: to find the cure for cancer.
As a single mom, Rheann's mom hopes her daughter will soon be matched with a Big Sister who will support her daughter's big aspirations and be a real friend. Rheann would like a Big Sister who enjoys outdoor activities and sports such as hiking and boating, as well as arts and crafts, painting, drawing and of course, animals.
Right now there is a dire need of volunteers as Bigs to mentor children like Rheann. You don't have to change your life to change the life of a young person. Just a few hours a couple of times a month can change a boy or girl's life - fundamentally, for the better, forever. Yavapai County Juvenile arrest rate confirms that kids matched with a "Big" are, on average, 40 percent less likely to get arrested, compared to all other kids their age. Matched children are also less likely to skip a day of school and less likely to begin using illegal drugs and alcohol.
Want to do even more to help kids like Rheann? Remember Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters for your Working Poor Arizona Tax Credit donation. Give up to $200 for an individual, orf $400 for a couple. It won't cost you a dime. And remember you can give the full amount to both Big Brothers Big sisters and the public schools, and get it all back!
