Obituary: Cynthia Joan Faulkner

Cynthia Faulkner, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2012, after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Roland; daughter Tammie of Mendon, Mass.; son Chris of Roseville, Calif.; daughter Renee of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; daughter Rolinda of Dansville, N.Y.; mother Sylvia of Scio, N.Y.; sister Brenda of Angelica, N.Y.; sister Linda of Scio; sister Cathy of Scio; grandsons Paul, Matt and Taylor; and granddaughter Katelynne.

Cynthia was born on Feb. 25, 1951, in Wellsville, N.Y., and grew up on the family's dairy farm in Scio. She graduated from Scio Central School in 1969. In 1979, she moved to Arizona along with her family, settling in Prescott Valley in 1981. Cynthia was an active member of the community who volunteered for Special Olympics and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and was a member of the Mountain Spinners and Weaver's Guild.

Cynthia was an avid craftsperson with an insatiable appetite for learning new skills, and particularly enjoyed sharing those skills with family members and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, photography and travel. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her strength, courage, laughter and fierce devotion to her family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 22, 2012, at the Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS association at www.alsaz.org. Click on Walk to Defeat ALS, then search In Memory of Cindy.
