Elizabeth Anne Greene-Wood ("Bette") ascended into Heaven on Oct. 11, 2012. She was 72 years old. Bette was born in Paterson General Hospital in New Jersey on June 28, 1940, to Edward C. Greene and Katherine Weaver-Greene of Lincoln Park, N.J.
Bette graduated from Chapel Hill Elementary School and Boonton High School in N.J. She attended Farleigh Dickinson University in conjunction with Paterson General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1961. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Lincoln Park, N.J., where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
In 1962, Bette married Edward L. Wood at St. Andrew's, living in Boonton and moving to Cliffside Park, N.J. in 1964. Bette worked as a registered nurse at Riverside Hospital in Boonton and Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J. Two of their three children were born in Pompton Plains, N.J., Katherine Rose (deceased Feb. 4, 2009) and Edward James (deceased Oct. 11, 2012.) The family moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 1978. Their third child, Daniel, was born in Arizona.
Bette was employed as a staff R.N. at Yavapai Regional Medical Center for two years, a school nurse at Humboldt Junior High for four years, and as a staff R.N. at Arizona Pioneers' Home for 24 years, retiring in 2008. Bette was a cancer survivor, bravely fighting the illness in 2004-2006.
She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Prescott since 1978, and volunteered in the church nursery, summer Bible school, altar guild and community cupboard. She belonged to the Paterson General Hospital Nurses Alumnae; American Legion Women's Auxiliary; and has been a contributing member of the Harvard Medical School Nurses Health Study since 1976. She was a member of the Gamma Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi (1980-1986.)
Survivors include her husband Edward L. Wood of Prescott; son Daniel; sisters Katherine F. Greene and E. Joan Greene; grandchildren, Tahra and Kyle Pearson, Sonia Ayala, Rockie Wood; sisters-in-law, Elsie Cole and Roseanne Bjork; and many others.
Funeral services and Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2000 Shepard's Lane, Prescott, Ariz. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Luke's in her memory.
