Manufacturer recalls possibly tainted popcorn
Dale and Thomas Popcorn has volunteered to recall a limited number of ready-to-eat bags of select flavors of Indiana-brand products because of possible contamination from Listeria, the Yavapai County Community Health Services announced Wednesday.
Community Health Services advises consumers against eating the products, to return them to the point of purchase and seek a full refund or replacement. Citing the Arizona Department of Health Services, the news release states Bed Bath and Beyond, Inventure Foods, Sam's Club, Walgreens and Walmart sold the products.
The recalled products went to various retailers on or after Aug. 8, with "Best By" dates of Feb. 4, 2013 through March 12, 2013. The products also were sold online. All recalled products were packaged in red bags of various sizes.
Consumers can identify if they have the recalled product by looking at the "Best By" date in the front, top-right corner of the package and the Bag UPC (code) on the nutritional panel on the back, bottom-left corner of the package.
Exposure to Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail and elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, the news release stated.
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Anyone who is concerned about a possible health problem or illness needs to contact a health-care provider immediately.
Consumers with recalled products should call Dale and Thomas' dedicated recall hotline at 866-940-7936 from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Arizona time, weekdays, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
