Head-on collision on 69 injures 4, one seriously
A Sunday night head-on collision on Highway 69 just south of Glassford Hill Road injured four people, one seriously.
Prescott Valley Police spokesman Paul Dunn said emergency personnel responded to calls about the accident at about 9:45 p.m.
Dunn said investigators found that a 2009 silver Hyundai Sonata traveling west on Highway 69 crossed over the center line for unknown reasons and struck a Toyota four-door sedan head-on.
The vehicle also struck on the driver's side a third car traveling behind the Toyota.
Central Yavapai firefighters freed the 24-year-old woman driver from the Toyota with extrication tools. They took her to Yavapai Regional Medical Center East where a Native Air helicopter airlifted her to John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix for treatment of multiple serious injuries.
A 27-year-old passenger in the woman's car, and a 23-and-24-year-old man and woman in the third vehicle were transported to YRMC East with non-life-threatening injuries, Dunn said.
The driver and passenger of the 2009 Hyundai refused treatment at the scene and were released.
The accident closed eastbound lanes of Highway 69 for more than two hours.
Dunn said the cause of the collision remains under investigation, and police have not determined if impairment was a factor in the accident.
