YBBBS Child of the Week: James
Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters is in crisis. 100 Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Couples and Family matches are needed NOW!
Meet James, one of more than 200 boys and girls waiting to be matched. He is an adorable 5-year-old who likes to ride his bike, play outside and build with Legos. James has a vivid imagination and loves to be active. He loves to play superheroes and Transformers. James even likes to cook.
James lives with his grandmother and great-uncle, and would like a Big Brother to be active with and do "guy things" with. He would like to learn to play basketball, and do fun things like go camping, hiking and fishing. James' grandmother would like him to have a Big Brother so he can have another positive male role model in his life.
Right now, we are in dire need of volunteers as Bigs to mentor children, such as James. You don't have to change your life to change the life of a young person. Just a few hours a couple of times a month can change a boy or girl's life - fundamentally, for the better, forever. Yavapai County juvenile arrest rates confirm that kids matched with a "Big" are, on average, 40 percent less likely to get arrested compared to all other kids their age. Matched children are also less likely to skip a day of school and less likely to begin using illegal drugs and alcohol.
Want to do even more to help kids like James? Remember Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters for your Working Poor Arizona Tax Credit donation. Give up to $200 for an individual and $400 for a couple. It won't cost you a dime. And remember, you can give the full amount to both Big Brothers Big Sisters and the public schools, and get it all back!
