Summer Concert Series kicks off at courthouse plaza Friday
Friday evening will mark the start of the City of Prescott's annual Summer Concert Series at the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza in downtown Prescott.
Festivities begin 6:30 p.m. June 1 will be the music of Southern Flight, a country/southern rock band. The rock/soul/southern rock band Crossfire will be on hand for the Saturday performance.
The weekend's concerts are just the first of more than 50 nights of entertainment planned for the Summer Concert Series. (The full schedule is available on the city's website at www.cityofprescott.net).
"Do not forget to bring your blankets, chairs and dancing shoes for Prescott's kickoff - great music from Southern Flight, country, bluesy/rock, and a great mix of good ol' classic rock," Prescott Special Events Manager Becky Karcie said of the Friday evening event.
She suggests that concert-goers stop by their favorite restaurant for dinner or for supplies for a concert picnic on the courthouse plaza.
Throughout June, July, August, and part of September, a variety of local and out-of-town bands will provide music for the free concerts that run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. most Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Generally, the series devotes Tuesdays to jazz. Wednesday-night events will alternate between clog-dancers and a new "Movie in the Park" event. Thursdays will feature Prescott Karaoke Idol, with the Central Arizona Band rotating in on the third Thursday of the month. Fridays and Saturdays will feature a variety of music genres.
