2 BMHS students compete in international DECA career development conference
Two Bradshaw Mountain High School students competed with more than 19,000 students from around the world at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City on May 2, and brought home a great deal of experience, but no awards this year.
DECA is a marketing student organization that prepares emerging leaders in the area on marketing, hospitality, management and finance. From its team of 17 that competed at state competitions, the two BMHS DECA students qualified for this pinnacle of all DECA competitions, the ICDC.
At the state competition, Christian Moncada, Bradshaw junior, placed fourth overall in the Food Marketing series. Senior Austin Kent was third overall in Hotel and Lodging Management.
Both students later traveled to Salt Lake City to compete against the top students in all 50 states and from foreign countries including Germany, China, Canada, Guam and Puerto Rico.
Although BMHS DECA was not able to make it out of their preliminary events and on to the top ten finals, they had a great showing and represented their school and Humboldt Unified School District very well.
