Agencies stepping up seat belt message
In an effort to save more lives, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety is partnering with Prescott Valley Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies for a high-visibility enforcement detail that has zero tolerance for violations of seat belt and child safety seat laws from Monday through Sunday, May 21-June 3.
As part of the national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, law enforcement agencies across the state will be stepping up traffic enforcement patrols to drive home the message, "Buckle Up Arizona ... It's the Law!"
Despite widespread efforts to educate drivers about the importance of wearing seat belts, motor vehicle collisions continue to be the leading cause of death and serious injuries to the citizens of our state, Prescott Valley Police Sgt. Brandon Bonney said.
When worn correctly, he said, seat belts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent, and by 60 percent for occupants of pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans.
