Obituary: Phyllis Blake Larson
Phyllis Blake Larson, 85, passed on May 9, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz. Phyllis was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Tucson to Laura and Benjamin Blake. She was raised in Pima, Ariz., and attended Eastern Arizona College for one year. She entered the University of Arizona in the fall of 1944 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. She married Marvin Ernest Larson (from Safford, Ariz.) in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple on June 5, 1947. She taught home economics at Marana High School while Marvin finished his civil engineering degree at the University of Arizona. Marvin and Phyllis moved to Phoenix where Marvin started his engineering company. Phyllis was a stay-at-home mother as they raised their six children.
Phyllis was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church. She served for six years at the Mesa Temple with her husband. She also served an LDS mission with Marvin in the London, England South Mission. In 1993, Marvin and Phyllis built a home and moved to Prescott, Ariz. They resided there for 17 years until health concerns caused them to move to Tucson.
Phyllis is survived by her brother, Benton L. Blake of American Fork, Utah; her children Scott (Laura Lee) of Tucson, Jen Weipert of San Diego, Calif., daughter-in-law Kay Lindgren of Mountain Green, Utah, Rob (Karen) of Riverview, Fla., Laura Buhler (Reed) of Evergreen, Colo., and Bruce (Louisa) of Glendale; 27 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Marvin in August 2011 and her son Phill in December 2001.
Viewing will be 9 a.m. with funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the LDS Parkside Building, 23121 N 67th Ave., Glendale, Ariz.
