PRESCOTT - A commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Indian Fire will take place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jersey Lilly Saloon on Prescott's Whiskey Row.

The Daily Courier is asking readers to email memories and photos of the 2002 Indian Fire to jdodder@prescottaz.com this week.

The Indian Fire ignited on May 15, 2002, and is the only wildfire in modern history to burn homes in Prescott. Thousands of residents were evacuated and, at its worst, firefighters feared it could torch thousands of homes, too.

Tuesday's event will include a showing of the Indian Fire video produced a decade ago by George Hall and Dave Johnson. The video features numerous photos and videos contributed by community members. It originally screened at Jersey Lilly's on May 15, 2003.

Another video that Hall made for the Sharlot Hall Museum features the type of fire equipment used on the great Whiskey Row fire of 1900. It also will show at Jersey Lilly's Tuesday.

People at Tuesday's event also are invited to bring photos and stories about last Tuesday's Whiskey Row fire, which occurred exactly one week before the Indian Fire's 10th anniversary.
