Paul Franklin Root

On March 9, 2012, Paul Franklin Root, 83, completed his race, having been sealed by the grace, mercy and love of the Father through faith in the Son, and went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Root (Conley), and children Marilyn Weigand, David Root and Susan Frank. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren Dianna Weigand, Catherine Weigand, Jennifer Hawley (Secor), Steven Secor, Paul JC Root, Joshua Root, Charlotte La Greca (Frank) and Cory Frank; as well as a great-grandfather to his three cherished great-grandchildren, Jessica, Peyton and Kaylin.

Paul was born in Anaheim, Calif., on Jan. 25, 1929, the son of Pastor Clayton "CC" Root and Florence Root (Wise). He was one of four siblings including Wilbur Root (deceased), Helen Schall (Root) and Ruth Cowie (Root).

They moved to Prescott, Ariz., in October of 1995 and became members of the First Baptist Church of Prescott. Paul was also a member of the Arizona Roughriders reenactment group and loved the insight to the history of Arizona that that experience brought to him.

He was a man of character and strong belief and witnessed those very things to his family, friends and everyone he met. No one was ever a stranger to Paul; he befriended all without condition and was always there whatever the circumstance.

He was an honest businessman and as such supported and provided for his family his entire life. Paul saw life's priorities as God, family, country and job, recognizing God's sovereignty by and through His Son Jesus Christ.

He was an advocate of Christian education and served as board president of Covenant Christian High School in Prescott Valley, Ariz.

Paul had many interests and a passion for the written word.

He was a gun enthusiast and followed gun legislation.

Paul was the proud owner and captain of the "Dana Blu," a 36-foot Grand Banks trawler that he sailed out of Dana Point Harbor in California.

His family and friends will always remember his humor, his love of life and his tender heart.
