YC volleyball players earn academic honors

The National Junior College Athletic Association named four members of the Yavapai College volleyball team recipients of 2011-12 Academic Student Athlete Awards on Monday.

The four Roughriders honored were: Kayce Youngberg (4.0 Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence); Kenzie Shippy (3.91 Superior Academic Achievement); Jessica Durbin (3.9 Superior Academic Achievement); and Chelsea Szretter (3.79 Exemplary Academic Achievement).

More than 1,680 student-athletes across the country met the NJCAA requirements for individual academic honors.

The Roughrider volleyball team starts its season with an away match at the Arizona Community College Athletics Conference Jamboree Aug. 11. The team then plays two home exhibition matches against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Aug. 15 and its annual alumni match Aug. 18.

YC's first regular season home match is scheduled to take place Sept. 3 against Phoenix College.
