PRESCOTT - The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is now using DeltAlert as its emergency notification system (ENS) in cases where authorities need to notify numerous homes and businesses about public safety issues, YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

Unlike the older system used by the Sheriff's Office, DeltAlert can notify residents by standard landline telephone, cellphone, email or text message, he said.

"This provides a significant advantage over the landline notification, allowing the user to receive vital information even when not home," D'Evelyn said.

The database holds all Yavapai County residential and business landline phone numbers by default, D'Evelyn said, and users can opt in to add more numbers or email addresses.

Users specify their primary contact and, if that fails, DeltAlert moves on to other contacts. If the system detects voicemail or an answering machine, it will leave a message; if it gets no answer, it will redial or move to another contact, he said.

D'Evelyn encouraged residents to sign up as soon as possible. "Recent fire-related incidents caused great concern regarding evacuation and danger to structures," he noted, adding that "With the new ENS, users will be 'in the know' should similar events occur."

The only way to correctly enter your information is to go to the YCSO website at and click on the ENS alert tab, D'Evelyn said. He cautioned against trying to register through any other website.

Every person living in a home should sign up, he said, because the primary contact in the system - for example, the homeowner - is the only one that will be called unless other residents are also in the system.

He added that all information provided will be kept confidential and not used for any other purpose.
