Jeffrey Ward Sturm passed away suddenly of natural causes on April 28, 2012 at 66 years of age.

Ward graduated from high school in Edina, Minn., from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. and from the University of Denver Law School. He was a probation officer for the adult division in Ramsey County, Minn. and an attorney for the EEOC in Phoenix before joining Community Legal Services in 1991 as an attorney in the Central Phoenix Office Benefits Unit. In 1997, Ward became the managing attorney of the CLS Yavapai County office, the position he held until his death. He taught classes for the Parent Education Program, served on the Board of United Way of Yavapai County and was involved in many organizations throughout the community fighting for equal justice for children and low-income families. He was beloved by all who knew him and cherished by his closest friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Sturm and Louise Benson. He is survived by his daughter Marnie Sturm (Doug Carson); grandchildren, George, Kate and Jasper Carson all of Vienna, Va.; and brother Gordon (Patricia) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St., Prescott, Ariz. Donations may be made to Community Legal Services of Yavapai County or a charity of your choice in his memory.
