Teen thespians in Trinity Presbyterian Church's Park Avenue Theater will present a youth version of the classic "Godspell" in three evening shows beginning July 26.
"Godspell," an interpretation of the book of Matthew, written by Stephen Schwartz, is a story about how very different people come together and become friends and followers of Jesus.
Park Avenue Theater's cast of 15 teenagers from across the quad-city area created a very similar community, director Joanne Robertson said.
"Most of the characterizations and interpretations the audience will see came from the actors themselves," she said. "Each cast member decided for him or herself what their character was going to be like.
"'Godspell' is one of the most 'ensemble' musical plays that an actor can experience."
The audience will
recognize several popular songs, such as "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord" and "Day by Day."
Founded in 2011, Park Avenue Theater is a response to the need for a children's musical theater company in Prescott, Robertson said.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. July 26, 27 and 28. Tickets are $10 for adults, $3 for children and students and are available at the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday or at the door. For more information, call 445-4536 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Trinity Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Park Avenue and Copper Basin Road in Prescott.
