Letter: A government of, by and for the rich
So, is our government now for sale to the highest bidder? To the billionaires in Texas and Las Vegas who want to buy legislation? To the Koch brothers? To ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), which writes new legislation for the states, getting rid of union rights, voter rights, women's reproductive rights, privatizing schools and prisons, you name it? Citizens United, found legal by the Supreme Court, made it so. Now millions, even billions, can be spent in an election without transparency. Even foreign interests can be participants.
Huge money interests bought the Wisconsin recall election of Scott Walker. He was able to outspend his opponent 7.5 to 1 and his moneyed supporters filled the airwaves with lies about Tom Barrett. Is that going to be Obama's downfall - the fact that he hasn't catered to enough self-serving billionaires?
Those who maintain the Constitution of the U.S. should be all-powerful in our country had better take a closer look at what's happening in this year's election. This year will prove, more than ever before, that we're becoming a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich.
