Kingman escapee is back in custody

KINGMAN - Mohave County Sheriff's deputies apprehended escaped inmate Darren Morrison, 26, in the wash behind a downtown gas station near Interstate 40 at 5:01 p.m. Monday.

A number of deputies and detectives assisted in the search and the subsequent arrest, said MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter.

The Kingman Police Department and the Department of Public Safety assisted with the search as well.

Morrison, who escaped from custody this past week while being transported from the jail to the courthouse, will be charged with felony escape.

Prior to his capture, deputies blanketed the downtown area after receiving a report that someone saw Morrison.

Sheriff's vehicles were posted intermittently on Grandview Avenue and throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Deputies looked inside passing vehicles and asked motorists where they were coming from and if anyone else was with them before prompting them to turn around and go back the way they came.
