On Jan. 14, Shinpu-Ren karate School attended the Arizona State Karate Championships.

Thirteen students and one instructor competed in up to three different events each. Everyone who earned 1st through 3rd place in either of their events is now qualified to attend the National Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., in March.

Nationals is by invitation only and participants must qualify at either a State or Regional level to attend. Students that will be going to Nationals, will now be training to compete against the top contenders from all over the U.S.

The events that the students competed in at State were Kata (forms), Kumite (point sparring) and Kobudo (weapons).
