Continued work on the Interstate 17 interchange at Cordes Junction will cause half-hour closures of the interstate Tuesday and Thursday night.
A news release from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reported that I-17 would be closed for as long as 30 minutes at 11 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday to allow for blasting work near Big Bug Creek. The on-ramp from Highway 69 to southbound I-17 will also be closed.
In addition, the right lane northbound on I-17 will be closed during normal work hours Tuesday, and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday night to provide a safe work zone for crews doing the blasting work.
Crews will also be doing necessary work on overhead utility lines across I-17. The utility work will require intermittent closures northbound and southbound on I-17, resulting in as long as 15-minute delays at a time, from Tuesday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The work is part of the $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/Highway 69 interchange.
The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage, according to the ADOT release.
ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
