College Wrestling: ERAU goes 0-2 at Mile High Duals

The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University wrestling team sustained two losses in the Mile High Duals Friday at the ERAU Activity Center in Prescott.

New Mexico Highlands University defeated the Eagles in the first round of the three-round tournament, 24-20.

ERAU had five wrestlers come up with first-round victories.

Sean Silva (125-pounds) beat Trey Humphrey 15-2; Colin Merkley (141) won a decision over Daniel Perales 9-2; Jesse outsong (149) won by fall over Stephen Apodaca; Luke Riley (165) defeated Christopher Apodaca 25-11; and Shawn Michalek (197) won a decision over Justin Rockhill 13-7.

In Round 2, the Eagles were edged by Menlo College, 25-19.

The Eagles had five second-round winners.

Silva won a decision over Drake Medieros 4-0; Josh Chang (141) beat Jace Weaver 7-0 for a decision win; Routsong won by fall against Richie Nole; Riley beat Carlos Soto by decision 3-1; and Michalek defeated Ben Yura 14-2.

ERAU failed to advance to the third and final round of competition.

California Baptist University beat Menlo 33-15 in the third round, while Montana State-Northern defeated New Mexico Highlands University, 28-17.

Saturday, the Eagles continued play in the 2012 Mile High Collegiate Championships.

Jesse Routsong, the team's lone placer, finished 2nd in the 149-pound weight class.

Next up, the Eagles host the University of Great Falls Friday at the ERAU Activity Center at 7 p.m.
