Obituary: LaVonne R. Burnside

On Dec. 25, 2011, LaVonne R. Burnside went to sleep in death. She was born in Roland, Iowa, on May 30, 1916, to Jacob (John) and Myrtle Sarah Langland.

Before her 9th birthday, she, her two sisters and brother were orphaned. Each of the siblings went to different relatives to be reared. As a young woman in her 20s, she asked one of her uncles where you would go if you left Iowa. He said "Arizona." LaVonne and her sister Margaret arrived in Phoenix, Ariz., in the summer of 1941, where she met and married Neil H. Burnside on May 22, 1944, who preceded her in death after 49 years on July 16, 1993. Prescott became their permanent home in 1963. At 95 years old, she left lasting impressions on all that met her as a patient, kind and generous person with a quiet inner strength. She set an example to all in her ability to find the good in everyone. Her mild mannered ways would calm the most anxious moments of those around her. Her life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses centered on the hope the Bible gave for man's future soon to be realized on a paradise Earth.

She is survived by her two children, her son, David N Burnside and wife Melinda, her daughter, Karen and husband David Washo; her grandchildren, Brandy (Burnside) and husband Robert Ross, Jason Washo and wife Karen, Sommer (Burnside) and husband Greg Velazquez, David S. Burnside and wife Ashley; her great grandchildren Jacksen Ross, Riley Ross, and Lucas Washo; sister (Leilah) Margaret Degrand.

A Bible-based talk will be given in her remembrance at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6833 E. Horizon Lane in Prescott Valley, Ariz.

Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
