Obituary: James "Jim" W. Smithart

James (Jim) W. Smithart passed away on Feb. 21, 2012, at the Arizona Pioneers' Home in Prescott, Ariz. Jim was born on July 19, 1926, in Glendale, Ariz., and lived in Arizona his entire life.

He is survived by his sister Virginia Thomas; niece Frances Faulconer; stepsons Byron (Metcalf) and Robert Gene (Metcalf); stepdaughter-in-law Shawn Cardinal; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WWII and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was an active member of the LDS Church and was devoted to a life of service and helping others in any way that he could.

Jim was known by his family and friends as a strong man, a good neighbor, a loving and generous soul, a good-hearted storyteller and an Arizona historian.

Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. followed by the celebration of Jim's life starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St. in Prescott.

The Grave Dedication will follow the service at the Arizona Pioneer Home Cemetery on Iron Springs Road in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charitable cause of choice.
