Robert Nathaniel Fortner Sr.

Robert Nathaniel Fortner Sr., 95, died peacefully on Feb. 21, 2012. in Prescott, Ariz. He was born in Scammon, Kan., and spent his childhood in Oatman, Ariz. He was the son of Benjamin and Nellie Fortner.

After marrying Gladys Hittson and starting a family, Bob lived in California and worked in the aerospace manufacturing business. He moved to Prescott in 1946 and worked as a butcher at Allen's Market and then co-founded Fortner & Gifford Machine Shop, now Fortner Aerospace.

Bob spent many years as a coach for Little League baseball and was known for the annual barbecues. He had many friends in the community. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and boating and had a great sense of humor. He loved music, especially Big Band, was an excellent cook and had many adventures aboard his houseboat, "The Widow Trap."

Bob is survived by his daughters Susan Fortner and Diane Williams (Arden); sons Robert Fortner Jr., William Fortner and Michael Fortner; and grandchildren Ellora Bracy, Diane Bryz-Gornia, Crystal Walker, Glen Williams, Mike Williams, Robert Fortner III, Robyn Campbell, Gladys Kratsas, Billy Fortner and Loren Traweek. Bob is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren. Grandson Travis Williams preceded him in death.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Oddfellows Cemetery, with a gathering afterward to celebrate Bob's life at the home of Arden and Diane Williams in Wilhoit.
